Dear Hunter
I assume you and warren zevon have written countless songs and you have been able to speak your peace about Nixon. That rotten bastard is in hell and you were correct. I came into your works later with the "fear and loathing" movie. Johnny Depp did you some justice and opened up a whole new monster of admirers to gonzo style of writing. I for one was hooked line and sinker with the opener "We were somewhere aroundBarstow, on the edge of the desert...
when the drugsbegan to take hold."
That was the most brilliant in your face opening line complete and utter chaos and I bought the ticket and indeed took the ride. It took me a couple watches to truly understand the point of the movie. I turned so many on to you but don't think they truly "got the point". They saw you as a drugged crazed maniac who did things that they would never know. That is true but its so much more. I've spawned off to Kerovac & Hemmingway all thanks to you. Not bad for someone who just read cracked magazine along with anything that required no mind strength to read. Even musically I learned how great Zevon was as a songwriter and not the novelty act for penning "werewolves of London". Hey rude, fear and loathing, and the rum diary have been consumed by me so far. I'm in the middle of reading Kentucky gentleman and never been so influenced by words.
Your ashes have been breathed in my lungs when they were shot from the gonzo symbol cannon from woody creek. Your spirt lives in me and the renegade within. You are a tremendous addition to the human race even though you wouldn't want it that way. I can wait to meet you in the other side to have a brew with you and to be merry. Who do you have in the super bowl this year? The Saints look tough but If favre is to go all the way it would be the greatest sports story in history. Wouldn't you agree? Hunter I hope all is well and tell Zevon I said hello.
Sincerely
JMR
